Judge Gannett will discuss general civil issues he encounters as one of the few judges on the Western Slope with a docket exclusively dedicated to civil litigation and as a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Standing Committee for Civil Rules. He will discuss issues related to creation/bifurcation of case management orders, various approaches to resolution of discovery disputes, utilization of telephone status conferences, scheduling for complex/multi-party civil litigation, utilization of special masters, recent Rule changes (e.g., pleading standards from the Warne case as applied to Motions to Dismiss under Rule 12(b)(5), Motions for Exemplary Damages, Motions to Strike Affirmative Defenses) and most importantly, invite discussion by members of the bar on matters of importance to their civil practice, their relationship to the judiciary and related issues.
